The Indian Army’s resounding victory during ‘Operation Vijay’ in 1999 remains a defining chapter in the Nation’s military history. Displaying unparalleled courage, determination and resilience in the rugged heights of Kargil along the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir, Indian soldiers safeguarded the Nation’s sovereignty against all odds. To honour this historic triumph and pay tribute to the Bravehearts who laid down their lives in the service of the Nation, ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ is commemorated every year on 26 July.
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Lieutenant General Mohit Malhotra, Army Commander, Sapta Shakti Command, laid a wreath at Prerna Sthal, Jaipur Military Station, paying solemn tribute to the gallant soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War. The Army Commander also conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the veterans, parents and Veer Naris of the Kargil Heroes for their unwavering courage, resilience and enduring contribution to the Nation. He extended his greetings to all ranks of Sapta Shakti Command and exhorted them to remain professionally prepared, steadfast and ever vigilant in safeguarding the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Nation.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the Army Commander interacted with Kargil War veterans, expressing deep appreciation for their exemplary courage, selfless service and invaluable contribution during Operation Vijay. He acknowledged their enduring legacy and reaffirmed the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to honouring the sacrifices of its veterans and the families of the fallen heroes.
