The Chhabra police in Baran district of Rajasthan have busted an interstate gang that allegedly defrauded farmers of crores of rupees under the guise of agricultural projects. An accused who had been absconding for a long time and faces cases registered at over a dozen police stations across various states, has been arrested.
Baran Superintendent of Police Abhishek Andasu said that in 2023, four farmers from the Chhabra area lodged a complaint alleging that certain individuals had set up a fake company named ‘Farmer Agro Solutions’ and lured them with promises of establishing fruit orchards and poly-houses, as well as securing dealerships for organic manure. After gaining the farmers’ trust, the accused allegedly swindled approximately Rs 12.50 lakh through cash and cheques before fleeing. A special team was constituted under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Saurabh Tiwari and the leadership of Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Khatana. The investigation revealed that the names, addresses, and mobile numbers of the suspects in the FIR were entirely fabricated.
Based on technical analysis, intelligence inputs, and continuous surveillance, the police identified the actual members of the gang. The special team arrested a gang member, Raghunath Gupta, a resident of Ludhiana. Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang used to set up fake agricultural companies to lure farmers with offers related to modern farming, poly-houses, fruit orchards, and organic manure dealerships. They utilized fake bank accounts, forged documents, and false identities for these operations. After winning the farmers’ trust and collecting large sums of money, the accused would abscond.
