The newly formed women artists’ organisation ‘Sursakhi’, in association with Rashtriya Kala Mandir, organised its first musical programme titled “Swaranjali” at Sriganganagar.
The nearly two-hour programme began with chorus singing, in which the Sursakhi anthem and “Ae Watan” were presented collectively. Thereafter, Dr. Rajni Aggarwal presented “Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh” on an instrumental. Swati sang “Dil Hai Ki Manta Hi Nahin” and “Kuchh Na Kaho”. Jyoti Gaur gave soulful renditions of “Moh Moh Ke Dhaage” and “Raavi”. Dr. Garima presented “Pal Pal Har Pal”, Dr. Rajni sang “Peeda Nun Main Seene Lavan”, Dr. Anandini performed “Ae Mere Humsafar”, Preeti Lakina sang “Awaaz Do Humein”, Jyoti Saraf presented “Tune O Rangeley Kaise Jadu Kiya”, Prerna sang “Ae Dil Mujhe Bata De”, Priya Jain performed “Babu Ji Dheere Chalna”, Renu Verma sang “Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi”, and Meenu Chimni rendered “Lag Ja Gale”, leaving the audience deeply moved. All these artists also presented a parody chorus.
Music teacher Johari Bhatia sang “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo”, filling the entire programme with a spirit of patriotism. Rhythm Guru Sunil Maurya’s music arrangement was outstanding. He himself handled the rhythm section. Pankaj Pahwa on the organ, Manthan Kalra on the guitar, and Sushil Juneja on the keypad provided accompaniment that further enhanced the presentations.
Chief Guest Dildar Singh Beer felicitated all the singer-artists and accompanists. RKK chief, Virendra Baid, said that the artists performed so brilliantly that it did not seem at all as if they were on stage for the first time. Founder-Coordinator of Sursakhi, Dr. Rajni Aggarwal, said that the women associated with the organisation had some apprehension about this first programme, but the overwhelming encouragement and support of the audience dispelled all doubts. The programme was beautifully conducted by poetess Ritu Singh.
