1,100 Rakhis—crafted by the Women’s Welfare Society of Fazilka—were dedicated on Sunday to soldiers, during an event titled ‘Rakhi Sarhad Ke Naam—Rashtra Raksha Ka Samman, Behno Ka Abhiman’ at the Asafwala Martyrs’ Memorial near the international border.
Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria was present as the chief guest. Praising the Rakhis prepared by the society’s female members, he remarked that society must always maintain a sense of respect and gratitude toward the soldiers who guard the nation’s borders. Several senior Army officers, including Lieutenant General Shamsher Singh Virk, were also present. Women expressed their respect for the soldiers and paid tribute to the heroes who had made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of the country. The atmosphere became emotional as the Rakhis were presented.
Architect of the grand event, Social activist Karan Gilhotra, said that these symbolize both the honor due to the soldiers and the affection of sisters for the men who stand firm at the nation’s borders amidst challenging conditions. He said, “From sub-zero temperatures to scorching heat, our soldiers stand guard at the borders with unwavering resolve. It is because of them that the citizens remain safe in their homes. Through these Rakhis, a message has been conveyed to the soldiers that the nation’s sisters salute their sacrifice and service. Soldiers remain steadfast in guarding the country while staying away from their families, and their sacrifices can never be forgotten.
He said that the aim of the ‘Rakhi Sarhad Ke Naam’ initiative is to convey the love and respect of sisters to the soldiers deployed at the nation’s borders. He remarked that preparing 1,100 Rakhis and dedicating them to the soldiers is not merely a social initiative, but an expression of gratitude towards the country’s protectors. He extended special thanks to the KGF team, the Asafwala Shaheedi Smarak Committee, and the civil administration for their support in making the event a success.
Those present included Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, Municipal Council chairperson Anita Jerath, former minister Surjit Kumar Jyani, Shashikant, Praful Chander Nagpal and Liladhar Sharma.
