Sirsa MP and Senior Congress Leader, Kumari Selja said allegations that a Dalit girl, who had been raising her voice for the rights of students and her community, was herself being targeted by the system were extremely serious. She demanded impartial and effective action against the accused in the alleged attack on Nishu’s father.
Kumari Selja said claims that the accused had publicly taken responsibility for the attack and had links with or received alleged protection from BJP leaders also needed to be thoroughly investigated. She urged the Delhi Police to act strictly in accordance with law and without any political pressure.“The question is whether the rule of law will prevail in the country or whether anyone will be allowed to challenge the law on the basis of political protection,” she said.
Kumari Selja said Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was firmly standing with Dalits, students and young people in their struggle for their rights. She added that Congress would also stand firmly with Nishu in her fight for justice and continue the struggle until justice was delivered.“No attempt to intimidate or suppress a daughter or her family for raising their voice for justice can be accepted,” Kumari Selja said, concluding with the slogans, “Jai Bhim, Jai Constitution.
