Panchkula Police has achieved another major success in its efforts to ensure justice in crimes against women and children. In a case registered in 2025 at Kalka Police Station involving the rape of a minor and threats to circulate her private photographs, the Fast Track Special POCSO Court has convicted the accused and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹50,000.
Additional Sessions Judge Manish Dua of the Fast Track Special POCSO Court awarded the sentence under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
DCP Panchkula IPS Aditi Singh said that in April 2025, a 17-year-old girl had filed a complaint alleging that a young man first became friends with her and later sexually assaulted her. The accused also threatened to circulate her private photographs on social media.
Soon after receiving the complaint, police registered a case under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections. The victim was provided medical examination and counselling, following which the police took immediate action and arrested the accused.
The DCP said that the investigation team focused on collecting scientific and factual evidence and presented a strong case before the court. Based on the evidence produced by the police, the Fast Track POCSO Court convicted the accused and awarded him a strict sentence.
