SENIOR CONGRESS LEADER SUSTAINS 70–75% EYE DAMAGE DUE TO DIRECT WATER CANNON ASSAULT, QUESTIONS CM MANN: WILL YOUR SACRILEGE LAWS APPLY TO CHANDIGARH POLICE PERSONNEL?, -FOR BJP, THE TURBAN IS AN ELECTION GIMMICK; FOR US, IT IS OUR CROWN: CHAHAL, -WARNS OF APPROACHING JATHEDAR OF SRI AKAL TAKHT SAHIB IF JUSTICE IS DENIED

Senior Congress leader Rana Baljit Singh Chahal today addressed a press conference, raising grave concerns over the high-handedness of the Chandigarh Police and questioning the accountability of the government. He strongly condemned the brutal police action during the peaceful protest march towards the Chief Minister’s residence, during which police personnel deliberately targeted protesters and forcibly removed his turban.

Addressing mediapersons, Chahal stated that while Congress workers were peacefully marching to fight for public rights, the police deliberately aimed high-pressure water cannons directly at his face and eyes. As a result, his eye suffered 70 to 75 percent damage, causing severe blurred vision. He asserted that far greater than his physical injury was the deep anguish caused by the police personnel forcibly knocking off and taking away his turban.

Questioning Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directly, Chahal pointed out that the government frequently boasts about strict laws against sacrilege and promises immediate FIRs against anyone disrespecting religious symbols. He asked whether the Chief Minister would now ensure that an FIR for sacrilege is registered against the guilty Chandigarh police personnel and that they are arrested for their actions.

Chahal stated that the turban is a sacred blessing bestowed by the Sikh Gurus through supreme sacrifices. As soldiers of the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi, workers are prepared to sacrifice their vision for people’s rights, but disrespect to the turban will never be tolerated. He further alleged that the brutality was not limited to him alone, as the police also subjected female Congress workers to physical harassment and high-handed treatment during the protest.

Taking aim at the BJP, Chahal stated that for the saffron party, the turban is merely an instrument for opportunistic politics. He remarked that Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini wears a turban when visiting Punjab, calling it the identity of Sikhs and a Guru’s blessing, only to discard it the moment he crosses into Ambala. For true leaders, he emphasized, the turban is not political attire but an irreplaceable crown of honor.

Demanding accountability, Rana Baljit Singh Chahal called for the immediate return of his turban with full respect and the registration of strict criminal cases against the responsible police officials. He warned that if the authorities fail to act, he will approach the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to seek panthic intervention and justice against this grave disrespect.
