The Chandigarh Excise & Taxation Department, in coordination with the Chandigarh Police, has intensified its enforcement drive against violations of the excise laws and illegal movement of liquor.
As part of the ongoing enforcement exercise, a joint team of Chandigarh Police and the Chandigarh Excise Department intercepted a vehicle carrying approximately 625 cases of liquor. The interception has led the Department to undertake further investigation into the source and movement of the liquor.
Pursuing the backward linkages of the intercepted consignment, an inspection was subsequently conducted at the premises of M/s Maurya Distillers & Bottlers Pvt. Ltd., a licensee holding BWH-2, L-1B and L-13 licences. During the inspection, various discrepancies/irregularities were detected. The Department has initiated breach proceedings against the licensee in accordance with the applicable excise laws, rules and licence conditions. Further action shall follow on the basis of the findings of the proceedings.
Action Against Liquor Vends
In addition to the above action, the Department has also carried out inspections of various liquor vends across Chandigarh as part of its regular enforcement and compliance checks.
During these inspections:
* Three liquor vends were found operating before the permissible opening time of 9:00 AM, in violation of the prescribed operating timings.
* Two liquor vends were found having discrepancies in their physical stock vis-à-vis the recorded stock. The discrepant stock was taken into possession/confiscated by the Department as per procedure.Breach proceedings have been initiated against all the concerned licensees for the violations detected during the inspections.
