Showing sensitivity and prompt action, Panchkula Police created a special green corridor to ensure the timely transportation of life-saving organs after the family of an Army personnel agreed to donate the organs of his brain-dead father at Command Hospital, Chandimandir Cantonment.
Following the family’s consent for organ donation, it was important to transport the organs to the concerned hospitals within the required time. Panchkula Police made special traffic arrangements to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted movement of the ambulance from Command Hospital, Chandimandir, to Chandigarh Airport.
DCP Crime and Traffic, IPS Amrinder Singh, said that a dedicated green corridor was created from Command Hospital, Chandimandir, to Chandigarh Airport. The route was managed through Old Panchkula and up to the Zirakpur border to ensure that the ambulance faced no unnecessary traffic stoppage. The donated organs — 2 kidneys, 1 liver and 2 eyes — were then transported by air to Safdarjung Hospital and Army Hospital in Delhi.
Since every minute is important in the organ donation process, traffic teams under the supervision of SHO Traffic Varinder Kumar remained deployed along the route and closely monitored traffic movement. The teams ensured that the ambulance reached the airport within the required time. As the onward route passed through different districts, coordination was also maintained with the police of the concerned districts.
Commissioner of Police IPS Pankaj Nain, said that deciding to donate the organs of a loved one is an extremely emotional and courageous decision for any family. He said that such a decision, taken during a difficult time, can give a new hope and a chance at life to several people in need.
The Police Commissioner said that for Panchkula Police, the effort was not merely about managing traffic but also about extending every possible support to a noble cause connected with saving human lives. He said that the timely transportation of the life-saving organs through the green corridor was the result of close coordination between the police, medical teams and other concerned agencies.
He paid tribute to the family for its inspiring decision to donate the organs and appealed to people to become more aware about organ donation and contribute towards saving the lives of those in need.
The successful completion of the operation was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the donor family, hospital administration, medical teams, Panchkula Police, Traffic Police and police teams of the concerned districts.
