STATES, LOCAL BODIES ADVISED TO OBSERVE WORLD RABIES DAY ON 28TH SEPTEMBER

Dr. Muthukumarasamy B., IAS, Chairman, Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), has sent an advisory to all the states to observe World Rabies Day on September 28, Monday.

In this regard, AWBI has asked Local bodies, Animal Husbandry Deptt, State Animal Welfare Boards to coordinate with Animal Welfare NGOs to organize Mass Anti-Rabies Vaccination Camp for community dogs and pet dogs. Strengthening of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Programme. Vaccination of pet animals and livestock. IEC (Information, Education and Communication) activities including posters, pamphlets, and social media awareness. Capacity building and engagement with schools, colleges, and local communities to spread awareness.

He has said that Rabies is 100% fatal, but 100% preventable. He appealed to all citizens, animal lovers, and volunteers to actively participate and support this initiative to protect public health and ensure animal welfare.

Dr Sandeep Kumar Jain, Co-opted, Member AWBI said that this letter has been sent to Administrative secretaries of Local Self Govt., Director Animal Husbandry, State Animal Welfare Boards, Members and Co-opted Members of AWBI & Recognised AWOs in all the states and UTs throughout India.
