DRIVER DISCLOSES ACCUSED CHAWLA ARRANGED VICTIM’S EIGHT-MONTH STAY, FOOD & COMMUTE IN TAKHT SRI KESGARH SAHIB SARAIS: DSP JASHANDEEP SINGH MANN, DRIVER QUESTIONED EXTENSIVELY FOR NEARLY SIX HOURS

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the rape case registered against former SGPC member Amarjeet Singh Chawla, a driver deployed at Gurdwara Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib on Monday, joined the probe and got his statement recorded before the Rupnagar Police following a statutory notice.
Divulging details, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sri Anandpur Sahib Jashandeep Singh Mann stated that a notice under section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) had been issued to Driver Mohan Singh, a resident of Mohalla Kuhaliwala in Sri Anandpur Sahib, directing him to join the investigation in connection with FIR No. 149, dated 21.08.2026, registered under Sections 64, 127(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Pursuant to the notice, Mohan Singh appeared at Police Post City Sri Anandpur Sahib and was questioned extensively by the investigating team for nearly six hours.
Sharing details of the disclosures made during questioning, the DSP revealed that Mohan Singh confirmed his employment as a driver at Gurdwara Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. The driver stated that the complainant/victim had been staying for approximately eight months across various sarais (lodging facilities) situated in the vicinity of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. Mohan Singh disclosed that he had, on multiple occasions, driven the victim to various adjoining gurdwaras as part of his duties.
The driver further revealed that all essential arrangements concerning the victim’s lodging, food, and local conveyance were directly managed and arranged by accused Amarjeet Singh Chawla within the sarais of Gurdwara Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, and that Chawla maintained regular contact with her. Furthermore, he stated that SGPC officials tasked with overseeing the day-to-day administrative affairs of the sarais at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib were fully aware of these arrangements as well as the ongoing contact between Amarjit Singh Chawla and the victim.
Reiterating the commitment to an impartial and thorough probe, DSP Jashandeep Singh Mann said that all facts and statements are being verified comprehensively and further appropriate legal action will be initiated in accordance with the law.
