MUNICIPAL CORPORATION GATE LOCKED IN PROTEST AGAINST POOR SEWERAGE SYSTEM

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

Congress workers staged a protest outside the Municipal Corporation office to express their anger over the dilapidated sewerage system in various parts of the city, including Arya Nagari. During the protest, demonstrators locked the main gate of the Corporation, raised slogans against the administration, and demanded an immediate resolution to the city’s sewerage issues.

The protesters said that the sewerage system in several areas has been in a state of collapse for a long time. Arya Nagari residents were grappling with problems such as overflowing sewage, waterlogging, and the presence of foul wastewater. No permanent solution has been found, leading to growing public resentment. The accumulation of sewage water on the roads is hindering movement and adversely affecting the local environment. They demanded that the administration immediately repair the sewerage system in the affected areas and put concrete measures in place to prevent such issues from recurring.

In the afternoon, Punjab Water Supply Sewerage Board officials arrived at the site. Tehsildar Charanjeet Kaur interacted with the protesters. The officials assured that the sewerage-related issues would be addressed on a priority basis and that necessary action in the affected areas would commence shortly. Following this, the protesters called off the protest.

MLA Sandeep Jakhar and Mayor Pooja Wadhwa had recently explained that the state govt. had not provided Super-Suction Machine to the Abohar MC. This hindered the work to remove silt from the sewage pipe lines. No funds were granted for urban development due to political vendetta.
