GATHERING OF DRUG ADDICTS AT ABOHAR CIVIL HOSPITAL CAUSES TROUBLE FOR PATIENTS

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

Notwithstanding tall claims on combating drug menace, there is growing concern among the public regarding the presence of suspected “drug addicts” within the Abohar Civil Hospital premises. It is alleged that these individuals are often seen quarrelling with one another, causing distress to patients visiting the hospital and their accompanying family members.

People also express apprehension about the risk of incidents such as theft within the hospital complex. Consequently, people feel that there is a need for the police and hospital administration to address this matter seriously and place special emphasis on security arrangements.

Social and Print media had carried hundreds of stories exposing pocketing of patients awaiting their turn for a registration slip at the reception counters in the 100-bed hospital that has an average of more than 600 patients per day. Many of the victims had to seek financial help from strangers after they were targeted by pocketing masters. Some of them were caught red-handed but only a few FIRs were registered reportedly due to unwillingness of the victims. Assurances to sanction a permanent police post in the hospital have not been filled citing staff crunch.
