The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Senior Section Engineer Pankaj Bhardwaj posted at Northern Railway, red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000/-.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Ferozepur.
He stated that the complainant had given some money to his known Amit Kumar who is a Railway employee for his personal need. When the complainant didn’t get his money back he filled a Civil suit in Court against Amit Kumar to recover his money regarding which the Ferozepur Court has passed an order to Railways Department directing that 1/3rd of salary of Amit Kumar be deducted and paid to the complainant Hardeep Singh. For making the said deduction, accused Senior Section Engineer Pankaj Bhardwaj demanded Rs 40,000/-. as bribe to implement Court orders.
Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, complainant approached the VB Range Ferozepur. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which accused Senior Section Engineer Pankaj Bhardwaj arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 40,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ferozepur and further investigation into this case is under progress.
