Due to erosion in Malukpura Minor near the nearby village Kerakhera of Balluana constituency late on Thursday night, farmers have suffered huge losses as hundreds of acres of their crops were submerged. On receiving the information, canal department employees reached the spot this morning and took stock of the spot.
Kerakhera farmers said that when they got information about the breach in the Malukpura canal at around 12 o’clock last night, they reached the spot and informed the Water Resources department officials. Farmers said that due to the breach of this canal, paddy and other crops have been damaged in Kera Khera, Dhaba Kokrian and Rajpura. Farmers said that at 8 A.M; departmental officials came to the spot and inspected it.
It is said that in most of the fields the paddy crop is ripe and ready, which has suffered a lot due to gushing water. The farmers said that the canal was closed at 8 am, which also shows negligence on the part of the departmental officers. If the canal had been closed on time, perhaps there would not have been so much loss.
