Commemorating the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Yugpurush Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan, plantation drive was conducted in the JP Park here.
During this, a dozen Jamun saplings were planted by Loktantra Swatantrata Saini Sangh Punjab secretary Rajesh Gupta along with Umesh Phutela (son of former Municipal Committee president Mukand Lal Phutela) and other members of the organisation. Through this initiative, along with giving the message of environmental protection, tribute was paid to the great freedom fighter and social reformer Jaiprakash Narayan.
Rajesh Gupta highlighted the life of the Loknayak, his struggles and the contribution made to protect the democratic values of the country. He said that Jaiprakash Narayan devoted his entire life to safeguarding the interests of the country, public welfare and positive change in the society. His ideas play an important role in showing the right direction to society even today.
He said that the real purpose of celebrating the birth anniversary of great men is to adopt their ideals in their lives and fulfill their responsibility towards the society. He appealed to the people to plant more and more saplings for environmental protection and take regular care of them. He said that plantation is an important step towards giving a clean and healthy environment to the generations to come.
