The 400-strong team of volunteers of the 7th Abohar Marathon felt saddened as the state government withdrew the NOC when distribution of T-Shirts to the participants was just to start. But, they asserted, this won’t dishearten them; they get more time and will emerge stronger in gearing up for the next schedule.
The team said that The Jakhar Trust applied for permission for the 7th Abohar Marathon on 18th Sept. After 40 days on October 27, five days before the marathon date of 1st November, Bhagwant Mann govt. has withdrawn NOC to marathon not allowing 10,000 children to run against drugs.
MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that the marathon started in 2018 and has never been denied permission. All marathons were & are against drugs; “Nashon se Dur Khelo Ki Aur”. IFFCO’s youngest chairman Surinder Jakhar was the architect of the campaign.
Last year in 2025 around 10,000 children & people had participated. Reports indicated that Govt. school teachers were being told not to allow registration of children wanting to participate in the marathon. Like in the past, participants had registered for the marathon from all over India. Over 400 volunteers are involved in making the marathon a success.
He said, “AAP’s politicians are responsible for withdrawing permission for the fight against drugs. The Trust has applied for permission for 22nd November 2026 within 3 hours of receiving the notice of withdrawal. Hopefully the AAP government will rise above petty politics and now give permission to 10,000 children to run against drugs.”
