MLA Sandeep Jakhar expressed deep disappointment over CM Bhagwant Mann’s Sunday visit, stating that this third visit has once again proven to be disheartening for the people of this border region. He remarked that he had long suspected that either the Chief Minister does not consider Abohar a part of Punjab, or the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government harbours some grievance against this area.
The MLA pointed out that the Chief Minister neither announced any new development projects for the border region of Abohar nor uttered a single word regarding the Rs 5 crore—earmarked under the ‘Rangla Punjab’ scheme—that has been withheld specifically from the Abohar assembly constituency.
He noted that for the past four and a half years, the people of Abohar have been awaiting development, yet the government continues to ignore their demands and grievances. Taking a sharp dig, the MLA remarked that while the Chief Minister finds time to embrace “former gangsters” on stage, he could not spare even two minutes to speak with an elected public representative. It is highly unfortunate that the Chief Minister lacks the time to even listen to a representative chosen by the people.
Jakhar emphasized that for the Aam Aadmi Party government, Abohar seems to have been reduced to nothing more than a location for elections and political events. Even after this third visit, the people of the region have been left with nothing but disappointment. He raised the question: how long will this discrimination against the people of Abohar continue, and when will the government release the 5 crore rupees that are rightfully theirs?
Targeting the local AAP leadership, the MLA described it highly unfortunate that, even after 4.5 years, the government is still merely asking for files regarding development projects. It was the responsibility of the local leadership to demand answers from the government regarding the region’s entitlements; however, it seems that these leaders san courage to voice their concerns to the Chief Minister.
