Lady Advocate Sunayana Arora and Advocate Nikhan Thamman , in a demand notice sent to Punjab Chief Secretary, Nodal Officer ADC, Deputy Commissioner, Mohali, Bunty Bains Production , organiser of Saras Mela and others requesting to immediately clean -up the site/open ground at Sector -88, Mohali 88, behind the Mangal Smart School , where Saras Mela was organised.
In there communication Ms. Sunayana Arora requested in a demand notice that the site / ground of Sector 88 where the Saras Mela was organised be cleaned immediately to avoid deseases like Dengue.
Communication further said that this open ground in question is surrounded with the residential areas and various societies and this open ground is in the back of the Manav Mangal Smart School. And it is essential to maintain cleanliness to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all. In addition, this unattended waste harms the local environment, damaging plants and disrupting wildlife habitats. It is highly concerning that such negligence has occurred, as it directly affects the health and well-being of the community.
(SUBHEAD)It is duty of the organisers and Mohali administration who organised this mela to clean that particular site after this mela/event was over. But unfortunately, solid waste/garbage is still lying in that open ground.
Currently, Mohali is witnessing a disturbing surge in dengue cases, with an alarming increase in positive cases over the past few days. The garbage, scattered around the park, poses a serious health risk to both residents and animals, especially since the park is surrounded by residential colonies and a school. The waste not only contributes to the spread of harmful diseases but also emits a foul odour, further exacerbating the situation.
Both the Advocates call upon the authorities to clean up the site/open ground at sector-88, where Saras Mela was organised within a period of 7 days from the date of receipt of this Demand Notice, failing which they will file Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Hon'ble Punjab Haryana High Courts, Chandigarh.
