PUNJAB GOVERNOR CALLS FOR STRICT MEASURES TO PREVENT INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER DISCHARGE INTO RIVERS

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, after inspecting the confluence of the Sutlej and Beas rivers at Harike Pattan, directed officials to implement robust measures preventing the discharge of industrial wastewater into rivers.

(MOREPIC1)(MOREPIC2)(MOREPIC3)Governor emphasized that only clean and natural water should flow into the rivers, as pollution is not only degrading the water quality but also endangering aquatic life and migratory birds that depend on the rivers.

Governor Kataria highlighted Harike Pattan’s scenic beauty, suggesting that promoting it internationally could attract tourists worldwide. He urged the development of essential facilities for visitors to enhance the tourism experience and called for efforts to increase the annual arrival of migratory birds, which adds to the area’s natural charm and attracts nature enthusiasts.

(SUBHEAD)Governor Kataria also toured the forest department's museum, praising the beautiful exhibits and photographs on display.

Earlier, yesterday the governor paid obedience at the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala. Later he watched an exhibition Kabaddi Match between Fazilka and Ferozepur teams near Indo-Pakistan Joint Check Post. The governor was welcomed by DIG BSF Vijai Singh Rana and other senior BSF officials at the Indo-Pakistan joint check post.

On the occasion, Divisional Commissioner Ferozepur Arun Sekhri, Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma, DIG Ferozepur Range Ranjit Singh Dhillon, SSP Saumya Mishra, and SDM Zira Gurmeet Singh, along with other departmental officials were also present.
