VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS PSPCL JE FOR ACCEPTING RS 25000 BRIBE

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Thursday apprehended Junior Engineer (JE) Ranjit Singh, posted at Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) Sub Division, Amritsar South while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs Rs 25000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Navdeep Singh, a resident of Amar Avenue, Ajnala Road, Amritsar.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged in his complaint that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 for slashing the fine of Rs 6,00,000 lakhs imposed on the complainant. The complainant further informed that the said accused had earlier taken Rs 50,000 as first instalment of bribe money.

He added that after a preliminary inquiry into this complaint a VB team laid a trap was during which the accused was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.

He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB Police Station, Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigations of this case was under progress, he said.
