Tributes were paid on Sunday to hundreds of people who lost their lives due to the partition of the country in August 1947 while migrating from Kumhariwala, a 300-years-old village in Pakpattan of Montgomery district.

It is said that about four lakh Hindu families came to India through the Haveli Lakha-Sadki-Fazilka road out of which thousands of people fell victims to the religious frenzy on the way. Many women and children reportedly committed suicide by jumping into wells and Sutlej river. Many families of village Kumhariwala including Kalra families settled in Fazilka and Abohar.

(SUBHEAD)Like every year, a program was organized at Shri Ram Mandir Fazilka to pay tribute to the families who lost their lives in Kumhariwala village. On behalf of Kalra and other families, a Havan Yagna was organised and langar was served followed. Bhog Sankirtan and recitation of Shri Ramcharitmanas was part of the programme. All those present paid floral tributes.
