UT EXCISE DEPTT. TO CONTINUE SRINGENT DRIVE AGAINST SALE AND SMUGGLING OF ILLEGAL LIQUOR

Excise and Taxation Department is continuing its stringent drive against sale and smuggling of illegal liquor which is essential to ensure the integrity of supply chain of liquor and the implementation of the Excise Policy 2024-25 in letter and spirit.

On the directions of Excise-Taxation Commissioner Rupesh Kumar, IAS, a meeting with Retail Licensee was held on Thursday under the Chairmanship of Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, UT Chandigarh wherein Department's cooperation and facilitation for smooth running of businesses was committed but directions were also issued that business should be conducted strictly in terms of the Excise Policy.

(SUBHEAD)It was informed to the licensee that Department will be constantly monitor their activities and will carry out extensive and regular inspections. Should any case of smuggling or evasion of excise duties or any deviation from the Excise Policy 2024-25, Excise Act 1914 be detected Department shall act swiftly taking stringent action against the perpetrators.

Dedicated Excise teams consisting of ETOs and ETIs formed to keep vigil and check liquor outlets and the wholesale traders. During the course of the checking of physical stock lying at the premises/shops, stock registers will be tallied with issued pass/permits.

In case any discrepancy under the Excise Policy 2024-25, Excise Act 1914 and MCC guidelines will be detected, the Department will act swiftly taking stringent action against the perpetrators

The Excise Department has been actively coordinating with Chandigarh Police for curbing this illegal smuggling of liquor menace by way of sharing of information and regular coordination meetings. Further, the Police department has also been request to strengthen the nakas at Inter State Borders and increase vigil in the UT itself.

AETC, Dr Harpreet Singh also urged the citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to the sale of alcoholic beverages to the Excise and Taxation Department and stated that such collaborative efforts will be pivotal in maintaining the integrity of our liquor distribution system and furthering the cause of responsible drinking.
