CHANDIGARH POLICE'S CYBER CRIME UNIT CRACKS DOWN ON ONLINE SCAM, APPREHENDS THREE SUSPECTS.

In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Crime unit of the Chandigarh Police has apprehended three individuals involved in a fraudulent scheme targeting users of online marketplace platforms for the sale of household items.

Spearheaded by Sh. Ketan Bansal,  Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime, a dedicated team led by Sh. A Venkatesh, DSP/Cyber Crime, and Inspector Ranjit Singh, SHO, PS- Cyber Crime, relentlessly pursued the case registered under FIR No. 10 dated January 2024, under sections 419, 420, and 120B at PS Cyber Crime, UT, Chandigarh.

The accused identified as Hakam Deen S/o Late Shri Nihal Khan, Village Kutiyapur, Tehsil & PS Kishangarh, District Khairthal (Rajasthan) Age 34 Yrs, Aakib Khan S/o Aas Mohommad R/o Village Hussepur, PS-Kishangarh, District Khairthal (Rajasthan) Age 24 Yrs. Iqbal @kuli S/o Late Shri Umardeen R/o Village Piplana, Tehsil & PS District Alwar . Rajasthan) Age 28 Yrs 

The investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by Suresh Kumar, who fell victim to a fraudulent scheme. Kumar reported receiving a message via Facebook from a purported acquaintance, Mr. Akhilesh Chaurasia (IPS-UP), indicating the availability of  household items for sale due to a transfer. Following this, Kumar engaged in communication with an individual claiming to be Santosh Kumar, a CRPF Officer. Kumar, trusting the authenticity of the offer, transferred Rs 40,000 via Paytm. Subsequently, the supposed seller ceased communication, leaving Kumar defrauded.

Upon tracing the mobile numbers and conducting thorough investigations, the Cyber Crime unit identified the perpetrators' locations and executed raids, leading to the arrest of the aforementioned suspects. Further investigation is being carried.
