11TH INTERNATIONAL PUPPET FESTIVAL INAUGURATED IN CHANDIGARH KICK OFF

Today marked the grand inauguration of the 11th International Puppet Festival at Tagore Theater in Chandigarh. The event was inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Sh.Banwarilal Purohit.

Accompanied by Sh. Rajeev Verma, Adviser to the Administrator.Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, Home Secretary, Sh. Hari Kallikat, Secretary Culture and Sh. Sorabh Arora, Director Culture were also present during the event.

In his address, the Governor highlighted the rich cultural heritage of puppet theatre in India, tracing its historical significance back to ancient times. He emphasized the enduring importance of puppetry as a medium for entertainment, education, and cultural preservation, noting its presence in various forms across different cultures and regions.(MOREPIC3)(SUBHEAD)

The festival kicked off with a mesmerizing performance by the Novosibirsk Regional Puppet Theatre from Russia, presenting the renowned puppet show “Petrushka.” This delightful production enchanted audiences with its colorful characters, foot-tapping music, and heartwarming storyline, captivating both children and adults alike.

To cater to the diverse audience, the Department organized special morning shows for school students and evening shows open to the general public, ensuring accessibility for all enthusiasts of puppetry.

In addition to the captivating performances, attendees will have the opportunity to explore a Puppet Exhibition at Tagore Theatre from February 17th to February 21st. The exhibition will feature live demonstrations of puppet making, offering a deeper understanding of the intricate craft behind these captivating creations.

The 11th International Puppet Festival promises to be an enriching experience, showcasing a blend of cultural heritage, artistic expression, and educational opportunities for all participants.
