With a commitment to making the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation corruption-free, Aapki Awaaz Party will contest the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections. This was stated by party president Prem Pal Chauhan, who targeted the BJP and other political parties, alleging that they had turned the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation into a hub of corruption.
He alleged that political parties had prioritised their own interests over those of city residents. Aapki Awaaz Party will contest the elections on the issues of changing this system and bringing transparency to the functioning of the Municipal Corporation.
At a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club on Monday, the party announced that it would field candidates in all 35 wards. The names of five candidates were also announced on the occasion.
Prem Pal Chauhan said that raising a voice against corruption in the Municipal Corporation and protecting the interests of the common people were the party’s top priorities. He said city residents deserved a system in which taxpayers’ money was spent on public welfare and transparency was ensured in development works.
He added that the party would take the issue of corruption to the people and raise its voice for changes in the functioning of the Municipal Corporation.
He further said that the city’s basic problems would also be highlighted prominently during the elections. These include poor road conditions, the problem of stray animals, law-and-order concerns, and difficulties related to electricity and water supply.
The party maintained that the Municipal Corporation was responsible for providing better civic amenities to residents and that accountability must be ensured.
