BARAT FROM ABOHAR VILLAGE RETURNS EMPTY HANDED FROM SRIGANGANAGAR

Toll free number-1098 of Child Helpline Sriganganagar received information that child marriage of two minor girls is being arranged by people in village 8Z. On the instructions of District Collector Dr. Amit Yadav, Child Welfare Committee Chairman Joginder Kaushik, Member Dr. Ram Prakash Sharma, Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma, Revenue Patwari Kanwaljit Singh, Police Station Sadar Duty Officer Hari Om Sharma reached the village.

When the team reached the spot, the Barat had arrived from the village of Bakainwala, Abohar. As the team asked for proof that the girls had completed 18 years of marriageable age, the parents presented the girls’ Aadhaar card and fifth class mark sheet, in which the date of birth of one girl was 11 April 2009 and the date of birth of the other girl was 5 July 2012, which was not of marriageable age.

The administration banned girls from getting married until they complete the marriageable age of 18 years and prepared a document with signatures from family and relatives. In one of the marriage processions which had come from Bakainwala, it was found that the bride was born on 18th April 2007 and the marriageable age of the boy was not 21 years. The administration returned both the marriage processions unharmed. Information about this has been given to the home police stations of the grooms.

Assistant Director of Child Empowerment Department, Rajeev Jakhar said that girls should not be married at any other place, hence the Child Welfare Committee Chairman has put on duty Anganwadi worker and a policeman to monitor the spot.
