BJP YOUTH WING ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING JOURNALIST AJUP CONDEMNS INCIDENT, DEMANDS PUBLIC APOLOGY

The Active Journalists Union of Punjab (AJUP) has strongly condemned the alleged assault on Punjab Kesari journalist Ramesh Handa by members of the BJP’s Chandigarh Youth Wing and has demanded that the party issue a public apology.

According to information received by the union, Handa was recording a video on his mobile phone of BJP Yuva Morcha workers travelling in Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses towards PEC to attend the Prime Minister’s programme when he was allegedly attacked. His mobile phone was reportedly snatched during the incident. Later, the damaged phone was anonymously delivered to the Chandigarh Press Club.

AJUP stated that a delegation led by the President of the Chandigarh Press Club met the Director General of Police (DGP) and requested the registration of an FIR in the matter. However, the union alleged that no case had been registered so far.

Condemning the incident, the AJUP Executive Committee called the alleged assault an attack on press freedom and urged the BJP’s Chandigarh Youth Wing to publicly apologise. The union also appealed to the management of Punjab Kesari to stand firmly with its journalist and take all necessary steps to protect his dignity and professional rights.
