CDTI, IN COLLABORATION WITH CSCA CHAPTER MOONLIGHT, RAISES CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS AMONG SENIOR CITIZENS

The Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) conducted a cyber security awareness programme for senior citizens associated with the Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association (CSCA), Chapter Moonlight.

The programme, attended by 65 senior members of CSCA Chapter Moonlight, focused on cyber fraud, cybercrime, and cyber security. It aimed to educate senior citizens about the growing threats of online financial fraud and digital crimes while encouraging safe digital practices.

The session was led by Gurcharan Singh, Senior Cyber Crime Trainer at CDTI Chandigarh, an institution under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Drawing on more than three decades of experience in cybercrime investigation and digital forensics, he explained various forms of cyber fraud, including phishing, fake investment schemes, OTP scams, identity theft, social media fraud, and other online crimes. He also shared practical safety measures to prevent such frauds and addressed participants’ queries during an interactive session.

In the concluding session, Dr. Kulwant Singh, IPS, Director of CDTI, said that senior citizens are often easy targets for cybercriminals due to their trust-based communication and limited familiarity with evolving digital technologies. He urged everyone never to share personal information, passwords, OTPs, or banking details without proper verification and to exercise utmost caution while carrying out digital and financial transactions.

On behalf of Chapter Moonlight, Rajesh Atreya expressed heartfelt gratitude to CDTI for organizing the informative and highly beneficial programme. He said the session had significantly enhanced awareness among senior citizens about emerging cyber threats and boosted their confidence in adopting safe digital practices.
