COLLECTIVE PLEDGE TAKEN FOR A CHILD MARRIAGE-FREE RAJASTHAN

Under the “Society Awakens – Renounce Child Marriage” (Samaj Jaage – Baal Vivah Tyage) campaign for a child marriage-free India, a public awareness program was organized by the Child Welfare Committee and the Department of Child Empowerment, Sriganganagar, at the PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School in Lalgarh village.

Joginder Kaushik, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, urged everyone to “nurture children’s dreams rather than subjecting them to child marriage,” noting that marrying off boys under the age of 21 and girls under the age of 18 is a legal offense.

Rajiv Jakhar, Assistant Director of the Department of Child Empowerment, explained that parents, religious leaders, relatives, tent providers, and caterers involved in such marriages are all considered liable. He also discussed children’s rights and encouraged the audience to remain vigilant regarding these rights. Conveying the message of eradicating the social evil of child marriage, he highlighted that such marriages hinder children’s physical, mental, and social development. The team appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration in putting an end to the regressive practice of child marriage.

School Principal Baljinder Singh expressed gratitude to all the guests and honored them with mementos. Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma; lecturers Suresh Kumar, Mukesh Godara, Mahendra Singh, Deepika, Sukhdev Singh, and Mamta Sharma; and a large number of parents were present on the occasion. Collective Pledge was taken for a Child Marriage-Free Rajasthan
