Congress appeared to be in a strong position in the Ferozepur Municipal Council elections as the results of 27 out of the total 33 wards had been declared till the filing of this report.
According to the declared results, Congress candidates secured victory in 12 wards, while BJP candidates won in seven wards. AAP candidates managed to register victory in two wards, whereas BSP opened its account with a win in ward number 21.
A keen contest was witnessed in ward number 15 where Congress candidate Sukhwinder and independent candidate Asha secured 474 votes each, resulting in a tie. Following the close finish, both candidates sought recounting of votes and the final result of the ward was awaited till late evening.
Former MLA Parminder Singh Pinki said that the people of Ferozepur city had once again expressed faith in the development works carried out during his tenure. Talking to the mediapersons, he said that the support received by Congress candidates reflected the confidence of residents in the party’s vision and commitment towards the development of the city.
