The Congress Seva Dal reverently observed the birth anniversary of the late Rajiv Gandhi—Bharat Ratna, former Prime Minister, and architect of modern India on his 82nd birth anniversary on Thursday. The event commenced with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp. Advocate Prince Rasrania, Vice President of the District Congress Committee, presided over the function. Rajinder Rasrania, National Secretary of the All India Congress Seva Dal, and Harpreet Singh Sidhu, President of the District Congress Committee were the chief guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajinder Rasrania described the late Rajiv Gandhi as a people’s leader who laid the foundation for a developed India. He noted that Rajiv Gandhi steered the country onto the path of progress by ushering in the computer revolution. By promoting modernization across various sectors—including education—and fostering new technologies, he created fresh opportunities for employment and development for the nation’s youth. The computer revolution generated millions of jobs. Rajiv Gandhi also strengthened the country’s security by procuring Bofors guns for the Indian Army; these proved decisive in destroying the bunkers of Pakistani soldiers positioned on high peaks during the Kargil War.

Harpreet Singh Sidhu said that Rajiv Gandhi did not focus solely on urban development; he empowered Panchayats and increased women’s participation in them to strengthen rural India. Advocate Prince Rasrania stated that by prioritizing the modernization of computers, communications, and education, Rajiv Gandhi prepared India to face the challenges of the 21st century. The nation continues to reap the benefits of his policies today.
