CONGRESS STORMS GURUHARSAHAI MC POLLS, CLINCHES 13 OF 15 WARDS

Congress registered a resounding victory in the Guruharsahai Municipal Council elections by winning 13 of the 15 wards, reaffirming its strong presence in one of the district’s most politically significant urban bodies. The remaining two wards were won by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP failed to secure a single seat.

The outcome assumes significance as Guruharsahai is represented by AAP MLA Fauja Singh Sarari and is also home to several senior party leaders, including District President and Punjab Planning Board Chairman Harjinder Singh Ghangha and BC Commission Chairman Malkeet Singh Thind. Despite an extensive campaign by senior AAP leaders, including Punjab party president and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, the party could not translate its organizational strength into electoral success in the civic polls.

Former Congress MLA Raminder Singh Awla hailed the verdict as a reflection of the people’s trust in the Congress and thanked voters for their overwhelming support. He said the party would continue to work for the welfare of the region and would strive to meet the expectations of the electorate. Awla alleged that dissatisfaction with the state government’s policies and concerns over law and order had influenced the voting pattern.

Meanwhile, in the Mamdot Nagar Panchayat elections, where polling for the remaining two wards was conducted on Sunday, Beantjeet Kaur and Paramjeet Kaur, both supported by the SAD, emerged victorious from Ward No. 3 and Ward No. 9 respectively.

It may be recalled that out of the 13 wards in Mamdot Nagar Panchayat, nine AAP candidates and two SAD candidates had already been elected unopposed on June 28, leaving only two wards to be decided through voting.
