Raj Sadosh/Abohar.
There is widespread outrage among the family and local residents following the death of Ajay Kumar, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a shooting incident in Sant Nagar, here. Questioning the police’s handling of the case, the family has demanded an impartial investigation and strict action against the accused. Given the gravity of the situation, Fazilka SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, reached Abohar where a dharna was going on outside the mortuary. MLA Sandeep Jakhar and many councillors were present at the dharna.
Ajay was brother of Akashdeep alias Bhalu, a known BJP activist who was selected as a candidate in the Municipal Corporation but could not contest.
On September 27, Ajay was critically wounded by gunfire as he emerged from a meeting held at Shri Valmiki Mandir Dharamshala in Sant Nagar. He was treated at Faridkot and then at Ludhiana but could not be saved.
Ajay’s brother, Bhalu, alleged that the police failed to take appropriate action based on the statements given by Ajay during the treatment. The family has declared that they will not allow a post-mortem to be conducted until justice is served.
The SSP met with the grieving family and expressed his condolences. Following discussions with MLA Sandeep Jakhar and the family members, the SSP assured an impartial investigation and promised that appropriate legal action would be taken to ensure justice.
MLA Sandeep Jakhar extended his support to the family, assuring them that he stands by them during this difficult time and will provide all possible assistance in their pursuit of justice. He urged the police administration to conduct a fair investigation, given the seriousness of the case, and to ensure that those responsible face legal action.
