DELHI WOMAN CONSTABLE SAVES LIFE OF MINOR GIRL ATTEMPTING SUICIDE AT HAUZ KHAS METRO STATION

During patrolling on Saturday at Hauz Khas Metro Station, W/CT Nikita No. 381/Metro noticed a minor girl, aged about 16–17 years, attempting to jump onto the metro track with an apparent intention to end her life. Displaying exceptional alertness, courage and presence of mind, W/CT Nikita immediately intervened and restrained the girl, thereby preventing her from jumping onto the track and saving her life. Despite the girl repeatedly attempting to move towards the track, W/CT Nikita acted swiftly and ensured her safety.

W/CT Nikita immediately informed the police station regarding the incident. The information was entrusted to ASI Raj Kumar for necessary action. The girl was subsequently taken to the Yellow Line Station Control Room with the assistance of other staff.

Initially, the girl was reluctant to disclose any information about herself. However, through patient, sensitive and reassuring interaction by  Nikita, essential details were obtained. Her father, was contacted telephonically and informed about the incident. He subsequently reached the Station Control Room. The girl was identified as resident of Sector-05, R.K. Puram, Delhi, aged 16 years.

During the course of necessary inquiry, it was learnt that the minor was undergoing treatment for a mental health-related condition at RML Hospital, Delhi, for approximately one year. It was also revealed that she had previously attempted to harm herself.

After completing the necessary inquiry and formalities, the minor girl was safely handed over to her father, for her care and protection.
W/CT Nikita displayed exemplary professionalism, alertness, courage, dedication and a strong sense of responsibility throughout the incident. Her timely intervention and compassionate handling of the minor not only prevented a potentially tragic incident but also facilitated the safe reunification of the child with her family.

The prompt, courageous and humane action of W/CT Nikita is highly commendable and reflects the commitment of Delhi Police personnel towards protection of life, particularly that of vulnerable children.
