Punjab Police have arrested a Ludhiana-based drug smuggler and recovered 1.964 kg of ice (crystal methamphetamine) from his possession in the Sandhe Hasham area of the district.
SSP Bhupinder Singh said the accused, identified as Harshdeep Singh alias Piyush, a resident of Ludhiana, had recently received a consignment of drugs and had come to Ferozepur to sell it.
Acting on the information, the police laid a trap near Sandhe Hasham village and intercepted the accused while he was travelling in a car bearing registration number PB 10 AE 6262. During a search of the vehicle, 1.964 kg of ice was recovered from his possession.
The accused has been booked under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at Kulgarhi police station in FIR No. 170.
The SSP said further investigation was underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify other persons involved in the drug network.
