ELDERLY MAN WAYLAID, BEATEN WITH AN IRON ROD; ROBBED OF CASH

An atmosphere of outrage prevails in the area following an incident where masked youths allegedly attacked Puran Ram (65), a resident of village Khuian Sarwar, with an iron rod and robbed him of Rs 1,900. MLA Sandeep Jakhar visited the government hospital to inquire about the injured man’s condition.

Questioning the law and order situation, the MLA stated that the government has completely failed the state. Ordinary citizens do not feel safe even when stepping out of their homes. Elderly people are being waylaid and attacked in broad daylight, and incidents of robbery are coming to light—a situation that is deeply concerning.

Jakhar said that the current state of affairs in Punjab is evident from the fact that in Ajnala, former minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal had to accompany police personnel to urge shopkeepers to keep their shops open and not to fear anyone. Had the policing system been robust, ordinary people would not have to live in such an atmosphere of fear. Mere rhetoric against drugs and crime will not suffice; strict action must be taken on the ground. The police need to take proactive measures regarding complaints about drug abuse in Khuian Sarwar and surrounding villages.

According to the victim’s family, Puran Ram was on his way to his fields when two masked youths on a Platina motorcycle intercepted him. After demanding money, they allegedly attacked him with an iron rod and took Rs 1,900 from his pocket. The accused also smashed his mobile phone before fleeing the scene.

The MLA demanded that the police administration identify and arrest the accused immediately.
