EXCISE DEPTT. IMPOSED 7 LAKHS PENALITY FOR PROMOTION OF LIQUOR EXCISE POLICY VIOLATIONS

EXCISE DEPTT. TAKES STRICT ACTION AGAINST EXCISE POLICY VIOLATIONS

Under the guidance and directions of Shri Nishant Yadav, IAS, Excise and Taxation Commissioner, UT Chandigarh, the Excise Department has intensified its enforcement activities to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, the Rules framed thereunder and the Excise Policy 2026-27 of UT Chandigarh.

In a recent case, it was observed that a retail liquor licensee was serving liquor to the public in an unauthorized manner by mixing “Smirnoff Minty Jamun Vodka” with ice golas (chuski) and serving the same outside the licensed premises located in the Internal Market, Sector 9, Chandigarh.

Accordingly, a show-cause notice was issued to the licensee, M/s Bajaj Spirits Pvt. Ltd., Internal Market, Sector 9, Chandigarh, by the Collector (Excise), Shri Pradhuman Singh. After due consideration of the matter, a penalty of Rs. 7 lakh has been imposed on the licensee by the Collector (Excise).

In another case, the bar licence of M/s Kaindal Hospitality, SCO 11, Sector 7, Chandigarh, has been cancelled for violation of the provisions of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914 and the Rules framed thereunder.

The Excise Department remains committed to maintaining a transparent, lawful and well-regulated excise administration in UT Chandigarh. Any person or licensee found indulging in unauthorized sale, service, storage, transportation or misuse of liquor shall be dealt with strictly in accordance with law.
