FAKE CURRENCY RACKET BUSTED BY ANTI-NARCOTICS SQUAD; FOUR ACCUSED ARRESTED

COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY WITH A TOTAL FACE VALUE OF ₹18,23,800 IN ₹500 AND ₹100 DENOMINATIONS RECOVERED, INCLUDING FINISHED AND SEMI-FINISHED NOTES, FOUR ACCUSED INVOLVED IN THE PREPARATION AND SUPPLY OF COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY ARRESTED.ONE LAPTOP, ONE HARD DISK AND PRINTING EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL USED FOR PREPARING COUNTERFEIT NOTES RECOVERED.

On 01.10.2026, HC Praveen and HC Vinod were conducting area patrolling near Gate No. 02, C-2C Block, Janakpuri, Delhi, when they noticed a suspicious person who attempted to flee on seeing the police. The staff apprehended him, and he was identified as Ankit Kumar, aged 25 years. During his search, 250 counterfeit notes of ₹500 denomination, with a total face value of ₹1,25,000, were recovered from his possession. An FSL expert physically examined the notes at the spot and verified their counterfeit nature.

Accordingly, FIR No. 409/2026 dated 02.10.2026, u/s 179/180/61(2)/3(5) BNS was registered at PS Janakpuri and investigation was taken up.

Considering the gravity of the case, a dedicated team comprising SI Sandeep Dalal, SI Deepak Mahla, SI Chander Shekhar, HC Vinod, HC Praveen, HC Anil, HC Vikas, Ct. Ankit, Ct. Deepak and Ct. Vikas was constituted under the leadership of Insp. Amit Dhani, I/C Anti-Narcotics Squad and Sh. Rajesh Kumar, ACP/Operations and under the overall supervision of Sh. Hareshwar V. Swami, IPS, DCP/West District.

During interrogation, Ankit disclosed that he had obtained the counterfeit notes from Gagandeep Singh @ Manni and Kulwant Singh @ Kake, both residents of Patel Nagar, and was on his way to deliver/sell them.

Acting on this information, the team apprehended Gagandeep Singh @ Manni, aged 31 years, and Kulwant Singh @ Kake, aged 44 years, from Baljeet Nagar, Patel Nagar, on 02.10.2026.

At their instance, a search was conducted at their rented room at Gali No. 21, Baljeet Nagar, Patel Nagar. The search led to the recovery of finished and semi-finished counterfeit notes with a face value of ₹16,98,800, along with printing and processing equipment.

During investigation, the landlord, Amit, aged 34 years, was also apprehended. Investigation revealed that he allegedly knew about the activities being carried out in the rented room and subsequently joined the accused in preparing counterfeit notes. He was accordingly arrested in the case.

MODUS OPERANDI:  Gagandeep had previous experience in printing work and operating die-cutting machinery, while Kulwant had knowledge of graphic designing and Photoshop. They allegedly combined their skills, arranged printing equipment and material, and set up a counterfeit currency operation in the rented room.
They also allegedly watched online videos and tutorials to learn printing and processing techniques. Amit provided the room and subsequently became involved in the operation, while Ankit allegedly procured counterfeit notes for further supply.

PROFILE OF ACCUSED PERSON

Ankit Kumar, Aged 25 years, R/o Janakpuri, Delhi. Studied up to Class 12 and worked as a parking attendant. He allegedly purchased counterfeit ₹500 notes with a face value of approximately ₹2.50 lakh from Gagandeep against a payment of ₹50,000.

Gagandeep Singh @ Manni, Aged 31 years, R/o Baljeet Nagar, Patel Nagar, Delhi: Previously worked at his maternal uncle’s printing press, where he gained experience in printing and die-cutting machinery. After allegedly suffering financial losses in online gaming, he joined hands with Kulwant to prepare counterfeit notes.

 Kulwant Singh @ Kake, Aged 44 years, R/o Baljeet Nagar, Patel Nagar, Delhi: Studied up to Class 9 and previously ran a mobile phone shop and worked as a SIM card dealer. He had knowledge of graphic designing and Photoshop. He was previously arrested in 2012 in connection with the issuance of SIM cards using forged documents.

Amit, Aged 34 years, R/o Baljeet Nagar, Patel Nagar, Delhi: Studied up to Class 10. In July 2026, he allegedly rented a first-floor room to Gagandeep and Kulwant for ₹3,000 per month and later joined their counterfeit currency operation.

RECOVERY:  Counterfeit currency with a total face value of ₹18,23,800 ( ₹1,25,000 recovered from Ankit Kumar & Finished and semi-finished notes worth ₹16,98,800 recovered from the rented premises)
👉 One laptop and one hard disk containing software/data related to counterfeit note printing, recovered from Amit.
👉 Printing and processing equipment/material, including screen-printing frames, watermark dies, cotton fibre sheets, security-thread material, heat-laminating machines, colour printers, printing inks, a stepper, a cutter and other articles.

Further investigation is in progress to trace the complete source-to-receiver chain and ascertain the persons/places involved in procurement, preparation, storage and distribution of the counterfeit currency, said  Mr. Hareshwar V. Swami IPS DCP, West Distt.
