GATKA ASSOCIATION PUNJAB CELEBRATES WORLD GATKA DAY – ORGANISES TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ART COMPETITION

The winning Ludhiana team being honoured at the heritage Gatka competitions.

Under the aegis of the Gatka Association of Punjab, the Gatka Association District Faridkot celebrated the annual World Gatka Day by organising the “Virsa Sambhal Gatka Cup” at the old grain market here, in which the team of Pratham Sahai Gatka Akhara, Ludhiana, emerged victorious.

Sharing this information, Talwinder Singh Ferozepur, General Secretary of the Gatka Association of Punjab, and Dr. Manjit Singh Dhillon, state Vice President and President of the Gatka Association District Faridkot, said that four boys’ teams and one girls’ team participated in the Gatka event. The competition was organised with the cooperation of Jathedar Baba Binod Singh Gatka Akhara, Faridkot, and Sardar Gursewak Singh Bhana Lajeez, and was attended by several prominent personalities of the city.

Giving further details about this traditional Gatka competition, Narender Pal Singh Paras, Vice President of the Gatka Association District Faridkot and a national Gatka coach, informed that in the Sikh martial art demonstration competition, Pratham Sahai Gatka Akhara, Ludhiana, secured the first position, Jathedar Baba Binod Singh Gatka Akhara, Faridkot, took second place, and Akal Purakh Ki Fauj Gatka Akhara, Kotkapura, came third.

In the Gatka Soti individual competition held on the occasion, Kashmir Singh of Kotkapura won first place, Sahibpreet Singh of Ludhiana took second place, and Navkaran Singh of Faridkot secured third place. The winning players were honoured with trophies by the dignitaries present.

 Among others present on the occasion were Jathedar Baba Satnam Singh Sodhi, Baba Satnam Singh Kar Sewa Wale of Jand Sahib Sadiq, Sardar Achhar Singh, Hardeep Singh, national Gatka coach Sherry Singh Bhamri of Fatehgarh Sahib, Pradeep Singh of Ludhiana, Akashdeep Singh, and Shahzad Kaur of Faridkot.
