GOTHIA CUP: MINERVA ACADEMY THRASHES KENYA’S LEGACY ACADEMY 6-2 TO STORM INTO PRE-QUARTERFINALS

India’s Minerva Academy FC maintained their dominance in the play-off match of the prestigious Gothia Cup (World Youth Cup) currently being played in Sweden, defeating Kenya’s Legacy Academy by a massive margin of 6-2. With this resounding victory, the Indian team has proudly advanced to the next round of the tournament.

The match started brilliantly for Minerva Academy when Tayenjam scored in just the 2nd minute, giving the team a 1-0 lead. Kenya’s Legacy Academy tried to bounce back and equalized the score 1-1 in the 20th minute with a goal from Lazarus Elijah. Following the equalizer, Minerva’s players intensified their attack. In the 23rd minute, Khongsai scored a field goal to put India ahead 2-1. The team maintained this lead until half-time. 

Minerva found early success again at the start of the second half, with Donald scoring in the 33rd minute to bring the score to 3-1. The Kenyan players also attempted to fight back. Chitiev brought the score to 3-2 in the 44th minute, but Minerva continued their relentless attack.

In the 46th minute, Khongsai netted his second goal of the match to extend the lead to 4-2. Shortly after, in the 49th minute, Tayenjam completed his brace (second goal), putting the team in a commanding 5-2 position. In the 52nd minute, Minerva’s Haokip scored the final goal, sealing a 6-2 victory and sending the team into the next round.

Minerva Academy is in unbelievable form in this tournament. The team has scored over 47 goals against opposing teams so far, while conceding only 3 goals—two of which came in this very match. Fresh off winning the Helsinki Cup in Finland, the Indian club’s undefeated streak continues to roll on in Sweden.
