Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

The arrest of a woman in police action against drug trafficking in Abohar indicates that the illegal trade is deep rooted and gradually becomes a family-business. It surfaced that most of the convicts resumed trafficking after getting bail.

City-1police team claimed to have held Paramjeet Kaur, resident of Seed Farm Pakka, along with 6.97 grams of heroin. According to the information, four-five cases related to drug addiction have already been registered against the woman. Police records reveal that her husband Chhinda Singh is serving a 20-year sentence in a drug-related case. Police have now registered a case against his wife under NDPS Act. She appears to be the fourth woman this year who was intercepted for drug trafficking.

Khuian Sarwar police team has recovered 9.44 grams of heroin and Rs 30 thousand (drug money) during the search conducted from Sriganganagar side. Police arrested Amarjeet Singh resident of Talwandi Sabo and Amandeep Singh resident of Alamwala, District Moga.

Police station Wahabwala team arrested three suspects with 45 grams of heroin, Shinderpal resident of village Chauhilanwali, Balwinder Singh resident of Ghattianwali Bodla and Jaspal Singh resident of Chak Kheowali were held. They were presented in the court which allowed a three-day remand for investigation.

The Fazilka based CIA staff stopped a vehicle on suspicion. On searching, 1 kg 500 grams of opium was recovered from the vehicle. Vijay Pal alias Ram Das, resident of village Sukhchain has been arrested under the NDPS Act. The court has sent him on remand for three days for questioning.

The quantum of the menace can be judged from the daily crime reports that reveal the arrest of several people after getting dope tests done.
