Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Gill Road, Ludhiana found an injured parakeet in a very bad condition about 10 days ago. Showing humanity, he kep
t it safely with him and nursed it. The parakeet is now healthy, but is still unable to fly properly.
Rajesh Kumar informed Dr. Sandeep Kumar Jain, President of People for Animals, Ludhiana and Member of the Emergency Relief Network of Wildlife Trust of India, and Sanjeev Kundra, and handed over the bird to them, so that it can be kept safe until it becomes capable of flying and later released.
This parrot is an Alexandrine Parakeet, which has a red and black coloured ring around its neck and a red mark on the edge of its wings. It is larger in size than the common Ring-necked Parakeet. It is a protected bird under the Wildlife Protection Act.
Dr. Sandeep Kumar Jain immediately informed Range Officer of Wildlife Department, Narinder Singh about it. As per his instructions, Amanpreet Singh from Wildlife Deptt received the parakeet from Dr. Jain sent it to Ludhiana Zoo (Tiger Safari) for upkeep and treatment.
Dr. Jain appreciated this commendable work of Rajesh Kumar.
