JAI JAWAN, JAI KISAN: ARMY AGREES TO CONDUCT FRESH SURVEY FOR DAM CONSTRUCTION

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

Setting an example of better coordination with the farmers, the Army has agreed to conduct a fresh survey for the proposed dam near Fazilka. Following efforts by the Karan Gilhotra Foundation, an understanding has been reached between the Kisan Sangharsh Committee and the Army over the construction of a dam, sources said.

It is learnt that the Army has decided to set aside the survey prepared after nearly a year of work, prioritising the concerns of farmers. The decision has been taken without considering the time and resources already spent on the earlier survey.

The fresh survey will consider the land and interests of farmers while giving the highest priority to national security and the sensitivity of the international border. The objective is to find a solution that protects farmers’ rights without compromising border security.

It is pertinent to mention that when the Kisan Sangharsh Committee approached Karan Gilhotra with its demands, he accompanied a deputation to Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. The Governor personally visited the spot, heard the concerns of the farmers and held discussions with Army officers regarding their resolution. His initiative and intervention also played an important role in moving the matter towards a solution.

As part of the initiative, an Ardas was offered at Gurdwara Sahib Chardi Kala for better cooperation between farmers and the Army and for the security of the nation. On the occasion, the Kisan Sangharsh Committee also honoured Karan Gilhotra. He later joined the Sangat for langar.

Karan Gilhotra said the fresh survey process would begin from tomorrow. He said the exercise would give equal importance to the interests of farmers and national security.

“Once again, the spirit of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ has been strengthened in Fazilka. Mutual trust and cooperation between farmers and the Army will set a new example for the border region,” he said.
