JAIL WARDEN BOOKED FOR ALLEGEDLY ACCEPTING RS 20 THOUSANDS BRIBE TO RETURN SEIZED MOBILE

Vikram Ditya Sharma/Ferozepur

A jail warden posted at the Central Jail, Ferozepur, has been booked for allegedly accepting a Rs 20,000 bribe to return a mobile phone seized from inmates.

The case was registered by City Police on the complaint of the Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail, after an internal inquiry reportedly confirmed the allegations.

According to the complaint, the accused, Rahul (Belt No. 2939), allegedly recovered a mobile phone from inmates but, instead of depositing it as per jail rules, returned it after accepting a bribe. The same phone was recovered again during a search of Barrack No. 2 in Block No. 1 on July 28.

DSP Sukhwinder Singh said the inquiry conducted by Deputy Superintendent (Security) Ravi Kumar found the allegations to be substantiated. Based on the report, a case has been registered under Sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 48(2) and 42(1) of the Punjab Prison and Correctional Service Act, 2026. Investigation is underway.
