In the case involving the exploitation of a 14-year-old girl from Sriganganagar—the police have yet to arrest the so-called YouTuber-reporter from Kharar in Mohali Distt. (Punjab). He had allegedly spread rumours of the victim’s death by circulating an old video of a different girl on social media.

Acting on the instructions of Superintendent of Police Hari Shankar Yadav, a case was registered against him about three weeks ago under various sections, including the IT Act.

Police said that the victim is alive. Although she was hospitalized for a few days, she is now safe with her family. The video claiming her death was circulated by the Kharar based YouTuber. The district police had started investigating.

According to police sources, the identity of the person who uploaded the video was established within hours of the case being registered, as the YouTuber’s mobile number was listed alongside the video. Upon contact, it was revealed that the so-called reporter was a resident of Kharar. The police not only contacted him by phone but also issued a notice directing him to appear at the Jawahar Nagar Police Station within seven days.

Police sources state that despite receiving the notice, the YouTuber failed to appear for questioning. For the past ten days, the police have only been able to contact him via phone; he continues to evade the police by making various excuses. A special team is now being formed to apprehend him.

Meanwhile, it has also come to light that the girl featured in the viral video—who was falsely identified as the rape victim from Sriganganagar—is actually a resident of Bihar. The video is quite old and was deliberately circulated with the false claim that it depicted the Sriganganagar victim, solely to create a sensation.
