LED BY KARAN GILHOTRA, FARMERS MEET PUNJAB GOVERNOR

A delegation of farmers—who had been staging a sit-in protest regarding a dam-related issue in the border district of Fazilka—met the Governor of Punjab Gulab Chand Kataria under the leadership of social activist Karan Gilhotra. The delegation apprised the Governor of the farmers’ grievances and concerns regarding the dam. Senior Army officials were also present during the meeting.

The Governor said that while national security is the top priority, the interests of the farmers would not be overlooked. He remarked that whenever the nation required their support for security, farmers have always stood by the country and contributed significantly. Now that the farmers are facing a challenge, it is the responsibility of both the Army and the administration to explore every possible avenue to safeguard their interests.

The Governor assured that the matter would be reviewed seriously once again. He clarified that there could be no compromise on national security; however, efforts would be made to find a solution that protects the interests of both parties by considering the technical aspects and the farmers’ concerns.

He informed that a technical team from the Army would visit the site to assess the situation. The team would submit a report after examining the technical details, which would form the basis for determining the future course of action and the solution. Additionally, the matter would be reviewed at the level of the technical committee with the involvement of the farmers. 

Vivek Pratap (IAS), Principal Secretary to the Governor, and Krishan Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Punjab Water Resources Department, were also present at the meeting.

Those present included Parameet Singh (Noor Shah), Randhir Singh Brar (Abhun), Harish Chander (Ladhuka), Sahil Kamboj (Salem Shah), Sukhdev Singh (Dhani Manga Singh), Sukhdev Singh (Ghurka), Harmandir Singh (Kirrian Wali) and Manoj Nagpal (Fazilka).
