Five story building collapsed due to have rain in Mathu Colony area of Shimla this morning. There was no loss of life as the building was vacated on Sunday evening.

Deep cracks had appeared at the base of the structure, allegedly due to ongoing four-lane road construction work in the area. The cracks raised concerns of structural instability, prompting precautionary evacuation before the collapse.

The incident has raised alarm among residents of three adjacent buildings, which are now believed to be at risk. Many residents have begun vacating their homes, fearing similar collapses.

Concerned authorities were busy in assessing the damage and the stability of surrounding structures. The incident has once again raised serious questions about the impact of infrastructure projects on residential safety in hilly  Shimla.
