TWO ACCUSED IN SANJAY VERMA MURDER CASE NEUTRALIZED IN EXCHANGE OF FIRE

Two accused involved in the murder of Sanjay Verma, co-partner in New Wear Well Emporium were neutralized in police encounter last evening.

DIG Ferozepur Range Harmanbir Singh Gill said that the police had taken the arrested accused — Ram Ratan and Jaspreet — to the Panj Peer Tibba area of Abohar for the recovery of weapons and other evidence related to the case. 

(SUBHEAD)During the operation, their two unknown accomplices opened firing at the police party. In self-defence, the police retaliated, during which both the accused persons succumbed to the bullet injuries. One police official was also injured in the crossfire and has been admitted to Abohar Hospital for treatment.

The DIG said that five individuals were involved in the murder. Three of them had arrived on a motorcycle to commit the crime, while two others were in a car and assisted in the escape. All five were closely linked and had conspired together to carry out the act. 

During interrogation, the arrested accused disclosed that after the crime, they had concealed their clothes and weapons in the forested area of Panj Peer Tibba. The police had taken them there for recovery when the encounter occurred.

Earlier, Special Director General of Police (Law & Order) Arpit Shukla said that the investigation in the case is progressing rapidly and that all accused will be in police custody soon. Multiple wings and teams of Punjab Police are working in coordination to trace the culprits, and the probe is moving in the right direction.

He stated that two accused, Ram Ratan, son of Ramesh Kumar and Jaspreet Singh, son of Hardeep Singh were apprehended.
