In a major breakthrough, the sleuths belonging to Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) have nabbed a mother- son duo who were involved in drug smuggling and recovered 2 kg heroin , 2 pistols (.30 bore with magazine, 12 round (.30 bore), 40 round (.32 bore) from them.
While divulging details, SSP Bhupinder Singh said that following the inputs, CIA sleuths laid a trap near Mansurdeva village in Zira city during which the accused identified as Sukhdev Singh alias Sunny (24) and his mother Sarabjit Kaur (42) both residents of Munava village in Moga district, were nabbed while they were travelling on a bike”, said SSP adding that one of the accused Jaswinder Singh, who is the cousin of Sarabjit, has also been booked in this case and a hunt has been launched to nab him also.
During the frisking of the accused, 2 kg heroin, 2 pistols (.30 bore with magazine, 12 round (.30 bore), 40 round (.32 bore) from the accused.
“Earlier on July 17, during an operation, the police had recovered 9.400 kg heroin along with 2.10 lakh of drug money and had nabbed two accused identified as Harmesh Singh alias Ramesh Katta (25) and Ajay Kumar (28) both residents of Basti Machhian in Zira. “while tracing the forward and backward links of the case, it was found that one of the accused Sukhdev was involved in that case also”, said SSP
It is pertinent to mention here that during the last few days, the police along with other agencies have recovered huge quantity of drugs and ammunition.
In other operation carried out by Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) yesterday, two drug smugglers were nabbed and 2.91 Kg heroin had been recovered from them. Similarly on Sunday, three persons were nabbed by police and 3 pistols, 17 live rounds were recovered from them in Zira area.
On Thursday, the police had recovered one AK 47 assault rifle along with 37 live cartridges from the agricultural fields near Ghoda Chakk village in Mamdot. Earlier on June 5, the police had nabbed three persons and had recovered 1 pistol (Glock, 9mm), 2 pistols (.30bore), 1 pistol (.32 bore) from them.
